Continual Professional Development/ Education:
All the Physiotherapists working at Physioworld are extensively trained prior to start date and receive constant support and training ensuring the highest quality of care for each patient is achieved.
The level of professional ability of each physiotherapist is constantly reviewed through clinical audits to ensure that no physiotherapist is ever expected to manage a patient which is out of their scope of practice and as a result ensures the safety of the patient and physiotherapist at all times.
Although we work in the private sector support for all physiotherapists is constantly available through the clinical lead and area manager, who in turn are supported by the Chief Operations Officer (COO) and Managing Director.
Audit:
Physiotherapists who work for Physioworld are audited using questions from the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP). Data is collected every 3 months ensuring patient safety and quality of care is consistently maintained. Audit outcomes include:
- Patients pain level at discharge
- Patients ROM at discharge
- Patients functionality in activities of daily life
- Patients satisfaction with overall service
Examples of how CPD is maintained within Physioworld:
Physiotherapist:
- 36 Month personal development program- Physiotherapists are reviewed every 3 months with adherence to the knowledge and skills framework , ensuring all criteria are being achieved.
- Minimum 1-2 hours training with clinical lead on a weekly basis.
- Senior clinician reviews the physiotherapist with a patient on a monthly basis- ensuring each physiotherapist is working within their scope of practice. This means that the quality/safety of assessments and treatments are constantly met.
- Training and performance team are constantly rotating to each area within physioworld ensuring personal and professional standards are reviewed and improved on a consistent basis.
- Monthly Seminars where all area physiotherapists train with clinical lead/area manger/External professional.
- Monthly Journal reviews/presentations- ensure constant review of current and up to date research and evidence.
- Anatomy training-Cadaver work at University Hospital in Warwickshire every 6 months with a leading Consultant.
- MRI scanning assessment and training with a leading Radiologist every 3 months.
- External validated courses- including Acupuncture (AACP registered)/Biomechanics/ NLP (neuro linguistic programming) etc are also implemented into each therapists CPD.
- Training and Performance Team
- All physiotherapists at physioworld maintain between 60-70 contacts per week with a very low DNA rate thus ensuring over 3000 contacts per year, as a result following the 36 month personal development plan this equates to over 9000 contacts! Repetition is the mother of all skills!
Each clinical lead has completed the 36 month program and is managed by the area manager who has undergone a similar but more expansive development program. Area managers are reviewed and developed through the COO and he in turn is reviewed through the CEO. This maintains the ethos of constant and never ending improvement throughout the entire company.
Currently we are creating a 15 month externally evaluated Modulated Development Program with a view to CSP approval by June 2012.
